Lockdown

With the latest lockdown, our lessons will be suspended until things improve nationally. Once we reopen, details of the first term of 2021 will be provided, along with credits for missing classes from 2020. For those who purchased our January 2021 Beginners course, your purchase will of course be valid for when we restart our dancing lessons. We are looking forward to reopening when it is safe.

Tier 4 Class Suspension

Unfortunately, due to the Government's latest restrictions, our classes will be suspended until at least the end of the year. All the classes remaining for the Autumn Term will be provided as credits for next term's classes. Bookings for the Beginners Class, scheduled to begin on 6th January remain open, although the start and end dates of the term are presently subject to change.

Spring Term 2021 Beginners Class

Booking is now open for our Beginners class starting in January 2021 and payments can be made online now! Due to the continuing pandemic, we will continue to take the precautions outlined and restrict class sizes to aid social distancing. Dancing lessons can make a great Christmas gift. You can easily gift the Beginners class on our website and receive a gift voucher within 24 hours.

Classes Suspended from Thursday

In accordance with the Government's announcement and new rules, I will be temporarily suspending classes and lessons from Thursday 5th November 2020 until 2nd December 2020. With cases still relatively low in this area, I have decided that this week's Tuesday and Wednesday classes will continue as normal. However, if you would rather not attend, I entirely understand. Please kindly let me know and I will add an additional week of credit to your file.

I hope that classes can resume following the proposed loosening of restrictions on 2nd December. I plan to make up for most of the missed weeks of this term by the end of the year. Any classes that cannot be made up will be provided to you as a credit for next term.

All being well, I look forward to being able to resume lessons next month, and in the meantime, stay safe!

Classes Continue as Normal

The new restrictions brought into force this week do not affect our classes as they all take place within "Covid-secure" venues that follow all government guidelines. I very much appreciate everyone's cooperation in ensuring that our dance classes are a safe environment during these times.

Whilst I realise that wearing face coverings during classes may take some time to get used to, I am grateful that everyone wore masks last week. I certainly do look forward to a time when we can all once again safely dance with our faces entirely visible.

Autumn Term 2020

After a difficult 5-months for all of us, I am finally very pleased to be able to announce the opening of bookings for our Autumn Term, starting the week beginning 7th September, which includes an 12 week Absolute Beginners class, starting on Wednesday 9th September.

There will be a number of changes to this term's classes:

Temporarily, there will be no Monday classes due to difficulties in finding a hall.

Classes will be a couple of minutes shorter to allow for time between sessions.

Class numbers will be more restricted than in previous terms to allow for social distancing.

Additionally, we will be following a number of other precautionary measures, which are available to view here.

Dancers who normally come without a partner or someone from their support bubble, will currently only be able to attend our new Contactless class. This class will focus on improving Ballroom & Latin technique and aims to make you a better dancer for when you return to partnered dancing.

With restrictions on class numbers, if demand is high, there is a possibility that an additional Friday evening class may be scheduled, although this is not a certainty, so please book your space for the Autumn Term ASAP to avoid disappointment!

August Catch-up Classes: Dates and Times

I am pleased to let you know that I have scheduled the a number of weekly classes for August. As 3 weeks remained of the previous term when lessons were suspended, those with remaining weeks can attend any 4 of these 50-minute classes free of charge.

If you do not have credits leftover (e.g. those who attended the Tuesday lunchtime class), you can attend any class (if there is remaining space) for £10 per person.

I’d like to clarify that the reason for having daytime classes during August is because of difficulties in finding halls that can accommodate evening events this month. Only from September do halls plan to be open more-or-less as normal.

Each individual class will only allow a maximum of 10 couples. All classes will take place at The Fowden Hall at Rothamsted Research in Harpenden (more location/parking information on our website - see below).

Beginners/Improvers (couples/support bubble members only)
Mondays at 12pm: 10th, 17th, 24th
Fridays at 1pm: 14th, 21st, 28th

Improvers/Intermediates (couples/support bubble members only)
Thursdays at 12pm: 13th, 20th, 27th
Friday at 2pm: 21st

Intermediates/Advanced (couples/support bubble members only)
Mondays at 1pm: 10th, 17th, 24th
Thursday at 1pm: 20th

Contactless - Mixed Ability (designed for those without a dance partner)
Fridays at 12pm: 14th, 21st, 28th
Thursday at 1pm: 27th

Based on your survey responses, I have ensured there will be enough space to accommodate everyone. However, to ensure each individual class maintains social distancing, you must reserve your place in each class online prior to the lesson. Some dates are likely to fill up, so if you would like space in your desired class and day of the week, please reserve your spaces now! Each individual class/date is treated independently, so each of your 4 lessons must be reserved separately. For couples, please ensure that only one of you registers online for the class. A link with further details, including the precautions we will be taking and the reservation facility is below:

August 2020 Bookings

During August, I will also be offering Private Lessons, with most of my available slots on Wednesdays at the Dance Studio at Roundwood Park School. Further details about this and how to book are also available in the link above.

I will provide further details about the term starting in September over the coming weeks.

Our Plan for August Dance Classes

I hope you are all keeping safe in these difficult times. I am pleased to say I have some positive news regarding dance classes. As you may have heard, as of yesterday (25th July) the Government is now allowing dance classes to resume.

When I had to suspend classes in March, there were 3 weeks remaining of that term. I am pleased to say that for the month of August, I have managed to secure hall access during the day, Monday to Friday. I would therefore propose to offer 4 weeks’ worth of 50-minute lunchtime classes to make up for these outstanding lessons.

With more people working from home, I am hoping that some of you may be able to take a slightly extended lunch break in order to participate.

I propose to run as many classes as necessary to meet demand and to ensure class sizes are restricted. The following additional safety precautions will be in place:

- Hand sanitiser will be provided and must be used when entering and leaving classes.
- A different entrance and exit door will be used.
- To maintain social distancing between couples, we will be adapting our teaching and focusing on dances that do not require too much travelling around the room.
- Partnering/contact dancing is only permitted when members of the same household/support bubble attend together.
- For those who attend classes without a partner, I hope to run a separate class specifically to cater for contactless dancing, with special Latin & Ballroom choreography and dance routines.
- You will need to sign in and sign out of the venues as part of the NHS Test & Trace service. I will provide further details about this closer to the time.

Anyone who has had recent symptoms or has been in contact with somebody with Coronavirus symptoms should not attend.

The Government’s current guidelines suggest that face coverings need not be worn while exercising. However, in the interests of mitigating potential spread, I would strongly welcome their use by those who do not have any trouble breathing.

Separately during August, I also plan to offer private lessons between 10am and 4pm on weekdays. For more information about this please email me.

Finally, I plan to offer a 12-week Autumn Term starting in the first week of September and I hope to be able to provide further information about this in the next couple of weeks.

Suspension of the Dance Term

In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, I have today had to make the decision to suspend the current term in the interests of avoiding the creation of the close person-to-person contact which is part of Ballroom Dancing. This, alongside the more personal matter of living with my elderly mother, makes me feel that continuing with classes is, as it stands, simply not worth the risk.

Given the extraordinary circumstances, I hope this news is not too much of a shock to you all, and I would like to offer my sincere apologies to dancers who were hoping to continue with the term. I must also add that there is the high likelihood that some of the venues I use are likely to soon limit use or close entirely.

As there are 3 weeks remaining in this term for all classes, I will of course make arrangements for alternative classes to be run when it is safe to do so. Additionally, the upcoming Weekender may have to be postponed.

Booking is still open online for the Summer Term, but I am aware that there is the possibility that next term will also be disrupted. Again, I will make sure that arrangements are made so that once things return to normal, all classes are made up.

For those booked to join our Dance Weekend in May, the event is currently due to go ahead as planned, but clearly there is the unfortunate prospect that this will also have to be postponed. I will provide more updates as soon as I have them.

Once again, I am sorry to perhaps disappoint you, but I feel that this is the best decision I can make given the exceptional situation in which we all find ourselves. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I look forward to a point in hopefully the not-too-distant future when I can update you all with good news about when classes will resume!
